Best Nursing Homes in South Carolina

Identifying the best South Carolina nursing home for your loved one takes time and a lot of reasearch. It is not enough to simply look for a facility with the highest marks. Here are the facts that you need to know.

Nursing homes, convalescent homes, and skilled nursing facilities that take patients with Medicare or Medicaid are closely regulated by both South Carolina and federal agencies. State inspection teams from South Carolina conduct health inspections annually. Each facility is evaluated against a long list health related checks. State inspectors also investigate complaints issued by both family members and residents.

Inspections cover a broad range of areas. South Carolina nursing home inspections look at food preparation, adequacy of infection control, medication management, quality of life, and proper skin care, to name a few. The rating given to each nursing home is based on the number and scope of deficiencies, as well as their seriousness. Be aware that inspectors also verify compliance with fire safety regulations, but CMS does not factor this information into the overall rating.
